Under the title „Personal autonomy and freedom in the digital world“ I aim my doctoral thesis at helping to build a bridge between philosophy and the purely technical approach to handling the growing number of aspects of human and citizen life by computers. With applied ethics as the main avenue of research I am going to identify ideas, concepts and methods and their contexts relevant for the current state of affairs and propose how their application to the purely technical and legalistic discourse may benefit singular persons as well as society as a whole. In this presentation I will put forward the example of the Metaverse, as designed by Meta, and how philosophy may inform and guide both the technical development and users‘ decisions on how to participate in the system or whether to use it at all.
